Choosing an online coaching platform: a checklist
Short answer: choose a platform that puts your brand first, runs exam-style tests, takes UPI payments, supports batches and drip scheduling, and lets you export your students and results at any time. Check the limits of each plan against your next year, not just today.
Moving your coaching online is a long-term decision: your students, content and results will live on the platform. Use this checklist when you compare options.
Your brand
- Do students see your name and website, or the platform’s marketplace?
- Can you start on a free subdomain and move to your own domain later?
- Do the emails students receive carry your academy’s name?
Teaching
- Video lessons that play well on phones, with notes and attachments.
- Free preview lessons for new students.
- Batches with their own start dates, and lessons that unlock on a schedule (drip).
- Progress tracking, so students resume where they stopped.
- A place for students to ask questions on each lesson.
Tests
- Timed tests with sections and negative marking.
- The question types your exam uses, including numerical answers.
- A question bank with random papers, so answers can’t be shared.
- Control over attempts and when solutions are shown.
- Results with percentiles, section-wise analysis and leaderboards.
Selling
- Payments by UPI, cards and netbanking.
- Courses, test series, bundles and paid attempts as products.
- Coupons for launches and offers.
- A record of offline (cash or bank transfer) payments.
Your students and data
- Import your existing students from a spreadsheet.
- Export rosters and results whenever you want — your data stays yours.
- Staff accounts for teachers, with billing kept to the owner.
- Certificates that anyone can verify online.
Pricing
- A free or low-cost way to start before you commit.
- Limits per plan (courses, learners, video, storage) that fit your next year.
- What is charged on top: payment gateway fees, video hosting, storage.
Questions to ask in a demo
- Can I see a mock test exactly as a student sees it, on a phone?
- What happens to my students and content if I leave?
- How are videos protected from casual downloading and sharing?
- Which features are available today, and which are on the roadmap?
